After School Special

I posted a short news tidbit not too long ago about the popularity of school-sponsored fishing competitions. Judging by the response here on Generation Wild, it’s an idea that would fly in a number of other schools around this country.

School administrators, are you paying attention?

Recently, I found this story about a middle school in South Carolina that’s taking the idea of mixing education and the outdoors a step farther. Palmetto Middle School is partnering with the state Department of Natural Resources and creating a series of outdoor-themed programs. If implemented, students will be able to choose from activities like boating, animal tracking, archery, and nature photography.

Is anyone else’s school on the verge of creating similar programs? If so, what type of activities are they offering? —Ben

How about opinions from the kids??? O yeah they don’t have a say in it. But i think this would be a great idea. TO bad the democrats will shoot it down cuz they’re to worried about saving the car companies.

School sure is right about the Demos… I am homeschooled and would love to have a trap team for our quite large organization. I read about a Scholastic high-school trap program with national championships, but I forgot where. Ben, if you have info on this, I would love to hear more.

I go to what is soposed to be the most “redneck” school in the district, Pickens High School. But dispite the reputation, true honest-to-God hunters are the extreme minority. Most people at my school think that a Carhartt jacket automaticlly classifie you as a redneck. So I don’t know if the students at my school would support outdoor sports like what yall have mentioned. and the school administrators are so eat up with “political correctness” it’s sickening. I think it could be possible, but it would be tough to get people interested.
