10-Year Old Bags a 12-Inch Long Beard
I brought up the opportunities of youth hunts last week, so I thought this cool article would serve as a good follow up.
After a day full of missed opportunities, and another morning of set-up after set-up, Hunter Lowery of Pennsylvania bagged his first gobbler during the state’s special youth hunt. According to the Clarion Ledger’s outdoor website, Hunter learned just how good a turkey’s vision is when he spooked a bird on the first hunt. But the following day he did everything just right and pulled the trigger when a big tom strutted within 15 yards. After celebrating with his dad and uncle, they took photos of Hunter’s trophy, which had a 12-inch beard and spurs that stretched just over an inch.
Nice work Hunter! And props to your dad and uncle for taking advantage of the youth season! —Ben

I could only hope to shoot a bird like that when our season starts.
