Pro Staff: Tyler’s Hunting & Fishing Mentors

Hey everyone, I thought It’d be cool if I introduced some people who has helped and influenced me on my outdoor career. Who are yours?

Fred Poulsen
Favorite Game to Hunt: Whitetail (Shotgun)
Favorite Fish to Catch: Shark
Occupation: Carpenter

Fred was a big reason why I am hooked on hunting whitetails. With help from him, I was able to take my first deer ever. Since that day, I’ve been hooked.

Carey Nemeth
Favorite Game to Hunt: Geese
Favorite Fish to Catch: Bass
Occupation: Tech Teacher (Autoshop)

Carey is another influence of my passion for the outdoors. I’m friends with his son Kevin, and Carey takes both us hunting during the season. Carey also takes me fishing, bow shooting, and a lot of other activities related to the outdoors.

Don Souders
Favorite Game to Hunt: Whitetails (Bow)
Favorite Fish to Catch: Bass
Occupation: Lawyer

Don also had a big influence in my passion for the outdoors. He helped me get started in bowhunting, and he also took me on my first coyote hunt. He’s also been known to tell some pretty crazy stories.

I think everyone has had someone older in their life who was an influence or helped guide them with the outdoors. Well, here are the three older guys who have helped me out tremendously. So I’d like to say thanks to Fred, Carey, and Don for helping me out with all that you have done. —Tyler

My dad, first of all has influenced me a lot in my hunting career, you know teaching me the ins and outs and what not.

I suppose i have somewhat of a normal/wierd way of getting into the great sport of hunting if that makes sense. My dad helped me get into it but that was mainly just pheasant hunting. For as long as i could remember i was passionate about all hunting but my dad on the other hand wasnt a huge hunter so to speak. As many of you know i am a big duck hunter its what i love to do. Now this is where my start into hunting gets a little less than conventional. Ever since i saw a duck hunting show on the outdoor channel i always wanted to do it, but the catch was i could never convince my dad. He would always just say you have to buy to much other equiptment for it and its just not easy(decoys, steel shot, ect.) and he would also always comment, “why would you want to go and sit in the most nasty weather imaginable to shoot a duck. Well anyway the last day of the season i finally got to go out with my friend and his dad and i shot my first duck and absolutely loved it! The next season rolled around and i finally had my dad conviced. So we went out and bout the cheapest and minimal amount of equiptment needed and we were off. Just let me say after that i think i created a monster ha ha. Ever since then i think my dad has been more of a “quack head” than i am. He is definitely hooked to say the least and its all thanks to my nagging and begging him to take me duck hunting. So there is my normal/wierd start into hunting story i hope y’all enjoy.

Both my grandpas have been instrumental in getting me initially interested in hunting. My dad did some pheasant hunting (sort of like Wes’s dad), but wasn’t big on it either. We finally decided we needed to try hunting (again for him) and we went out and bought my first gun. I got drawn for the youth turkey hunt last spring at a county park, and i got the best guide as well. He has traveled all over the world bowhunting and he is just all around a great guy. He is also the one who got me interested in bowhunting. Thanks Marty!
