Cool Trend: Archery Parks
Beginning archers have quite a few hurdles to overcome. Not only does it take money to buy the equipment, you have to get to know your gear, sometimes complete an archery safety course, and last but not least, you need a place to practice, which isn’t always easy to find.
Thankfully, a few towns in Alabama are taking the “space to practice” hurdle out of the equation by building public archery courses. I think it’s great. I mean, there are already skateboard parks, Frisbee golf parks, dog parks, etc. So why not build something archers can call their own?
According to a news story, a brand-new 17-acre archery park has a youth range for bows with draw weights under 30 pounds, targets out to 50 yards for advanced shooters (with more powerful bows), and even an elevated tower to simulate shooting from a treestand. What’s even better is the park is free for anyone to use as long as they have a state hunting license or outdoor wildlife heritage license.
I’ve been to 3D archery shoots and other archery events that were planned and produced, but I’ve never seen a public park like this. Has anyone ever been to a place like this? Is it as much fun as I imagine it would be? —Ben

June 15th, 2009 at 1:07 pmHere in Colorado there is a public archery range in Ft Collins i shoot there quite a bit while im at college. Its got 2 yardage ranges a broadhead pit and like 25 “3D” targets which are just burlap squares with animals painted on them, i assume they dont have actual 3D targets because the targets they have are cheaper and last longer. But its a great place, dont have to pay and i can go there and shoot my bow and have a great time.
