Summer Plans?
I’m lucky to live close enough to my brother, sister, and parents that it’s always easy to find someone who’s up for a little adventure. And I’m sure I’m not alone. So far my “to do” list of particular summer events I’ve planned to do with friends/family should soak up some time in just about every week from here until the end of September.
I saw this article posted from an Alaskan newspaper and, just like the archery parks, I think this is a great idea. If I could, I would add something like this to my list. I’ve never been to summer camp, but I know a lot of friends that have, and if they had something like this in these parts, I probably would have signed up.
It may seem like a lot of time, but the next few months will fly by—I guarantee that. So much to do, so little time. Sure, there’s summer jobs, chores, and running around with friends to fill the long days, but what else are is in your plans? More fishing? More camping? (I know of at least one GW member who’s preparing for a heated family-fishing competition!) —Ben Romans

Well, hopefully I’ll have more days like yesterday, and be able to get out to catch some fish. The only thing I know is i’ll be doing something outdoors fourth of July weekend. Other than that, I just make it up as I go along.
June 20th, 2009 at 9:30 amI’m with TK I want to catch a lot of fish and I just got a hot tip on a bass spot from a 90 year old man so I’m gonna check that out. But the main thing that I am going to do is practice shooting my bow for the labor day archery opener for whitetail deer. A deep sea trip wouldnt hurt either
June 21st, 2009 at 8:02 amYup, 3rd annual catfish derby was a success. My uncle came in first in the adult division with a 5.93 lb. channel cat, the third-largest fish ever caught off the dock and his first catfish. My little sister took the junior division with a 4.98 lb channel, also her first. Beginner’s luck this year. Not very many fish (three in the whole thing) but we were catching big ones! Funny thing was that my sister “didn’t want to catch a fish” and was about five minutes into her already-shortened bracket when she hooked that monster on a little zebco rod. She had a tough time getting it in, and it made a dash for under the dock twice, and it jumped clear out of net once. About a ten-minute fight. Everyone was congratulating her afterwards and she was mad that she caught a fish. Slightly weird.
June 28th, 2009 at 7:54 pmI want to get my bow completely sighted in for this fall, and do more bass and catfishing. Got back from my MI trip, which was a lot of fun, today. If you’ve never fished for Lake Michigan freshwater drum off a pier, you have got to give it a try. Live crayfish on a 2/0 worm hook on the bottom. Great fight for a “garbage” fish.
